Human to Robot Army / 2008

Join the Human to Robot Army, 2008
A project for the Mattress Factory Museum
Over the course of this project, artists Jon Rubin and John Peña will be recruiting citizens of Pittsburgh for their Human to Robot Army. With the help of professional Hypnotist John Weir, they have organized hypnosis sessions during which participants will be hypnotized into believing that they are a robot for a short period of time. Each person will then be called once a day for a month and given the trigger word, “Robot," thus causing them to act like a robot. In addition, 150 unique recruitment posters have been placed throughout the city to invite participation and inspire people to wonder who might be a robot.
The text on the poster reads:
Step One: Receive hypnosis (from a professionally trained hypnotist) and special ringtone trigger at one of our training seminars.
Step Two: Once a day your special ringtone will signal, causing you and hundreds like you to act like a "robot."
When a cell phone rings, be on the lookout.
Special thanks to Brettt Yasko who also collaborated on this project. The images below are of the hypnosis sessions, hypnotist John Weir and the posters around Pittsburgh.
