A Sea of Apologies

For this project, artist Tom Semple began drawing on four 18" x 24" sheets of white paper. After the drawings were finished, he then painted over them, bringing the paper back to its original state. Tom then gave me the four sheets and asked me to make a work with them. After I finished, we then painted the sheets white again, returning them to their original state.
For my part, I filled all four pages with thousands of handwritten apologies. Floating in the sea of them was one "I love you." Tom's Legacy project is still ongoing. It has undergone the transformation of 15 other artists and counting. One artist, Brent Holland, decided to excavate my apologies by carefully carving through the other artists’ layers in an attempt to find these buried apologies.
