The World's Smallest Sunset
The
World's Smallest Sunset (as seen from really, really, really far away)
Graphite, Latex paint, and binoculars
Installation in Gallery One Studios
2004
For this work, I hand painted the sentence, “The World’s
Smallest Sunset (as seen from really, really, really far away)” on a gallery wall. The text was about three feet from the floor and
was centered on the wall. Above the text, at eye level, I drew a small
line drawing of a tiny road, a few hills, some clouds, and a setting sun.
Viewed from more than a few feet away the drawing was indiscernible and hardly
visible. But when viewers looked through the binoculars, they would be able to see the drawing.
